Garlic Honey

So I sit here after the kids go to bed and play on Pinterest, I am realizing I could be blogging about herbalism and all the advantages it beholds. So I am going to start off with what could help a cold and boost your immune system in the winter. Easy things to do with items most kitchens have.

First tonight Garlic Honey. Honey is a powerful healer!! It can help sore throats, colds, flu, lung congestions, and sinus ailments.

First, take a small pint size jar add a few unpeeled garlic cloves (make sure there is no mold on them), pour honey over the top poke garlic down into honey and put on lid. Garlic will float to top its okay... It is ready almost immediately but I would let it sit overnight to get some more medicinal properties extracted by the garlic or even a few days.

As it ages, both the honey and the garlic will darken. I leave garlic in and add more honey when it starts to get low.

You can take 1-4 teaspoons a day depending on age and how bad a cough/sore throat is. You your best judgement. You can also stir in tea. You really can't taste more than a hint of garlic.

As with all honey, do not give to children less than one year old.

Honey has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. Use r
aw local honey as it is high in enzymes.

It’s impossible to talk about the magic of the honey bees without acknowledging the difficulty they are currently having. To help support the honey bees:

  • Plant flowers that bees love!
  • Support organic farming by buying and growing local organic foods, as pesticides are one of the major factors in the bees’ plight.
Soon I will post another great remedy for the winter months!

Greening our lives even more...

So we are pretty green here. Eco-friendly cleaners, composting, cooking from scratch, gardening, buying local (whenever possible)...

Now I want a cook stove to cook on 3 season out of 4. It would save on electricity and warm the house at the same time! More work but I already am in the kitchen a lot preparing anyway so one more step isn't that big of a deal. Right? I hope... lol Even though it won't happen until we build a house or find our dream home.

Next maybe composting toilets?!?

Another long time has passed. So busy raising, homeschooling, caring for 2 children!

Our Christmas is almost all handmade.... Made towel turbans, wool dryer balls, upcycled quilted laptop bag, star shaped crayons and gift bags for them to go into, and some teas for my grandpa and mom... I hope they love them! It has saved time and money!! I also didn't have to go to many stores at all which is always a plus as I DISLIKE shopping when there are 2 children attached to my hip.
Went for a wonderful massage at Healing Inspirations in Liverpool yesterday while the children stayed with Grandma Dempster and made crafts for Christmas gifts.

Today we are planning on making cookies! YUM!

Well its been awhile... AGAIN!
I really should stay on top of this but with my course, our business, and the children I am pretty busy!

So today we are trying a new Shea butter Calendula Cream recipe hopefully this is the one that works!

I have been off coffee since February 15th and feel great. My face seems to be clearing up and I seem to have more energy. I have replaced it with ACV and honey with a tsp of Maca Root Powder.  That might be where my energy is coming from... however it tastes horrid but its not too bad mixed with my morning ACV,Honey, and hot water! info on Maca Root:

Working in tandem with the body's natural rhythms, Maca root helps rebuild weak immune systems, re-mineralize poorly nourished bodies, and increase energy and endurance. As an adaptogen, maca works broadly to contribute to overall well being. It nourishes and calms the nerves with calcium, phosphorus, vitamins B1 and B12 , and fatty acids, all of which work beneficially on the nervous system.

It stimulates the appetite and aids in digestion with calcium, vitamins B1 and B2, B12, and fatty acids. Its phosphorus is a primary building block in the cell fuels Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) and glucose-6-phosphate (G6P).

At the same time it supports the adrenal glands so they don't have to rely on damaging corticol to fuel the body. Its sterols, calcium, and vitamin C help build muscle mass and its starches aid in physical endurance. Its alkaloids help the body assimiliate all these nutrients just where they are required.  http://www.macaroot.com/benefits/index.html

Sickness

We are all still getting better.... Its gone from Mekayla to me and now Dawson... This respiratory runny nose virus that SUCKS!! I really dislike when my children are sick... me I handle at least for the first 5 days or so... but when it went past that I had to find a homeopathic remedy to help! And boy did it within an hour of taking it I could breathe through my nose and my cough lessened quite a bit. Maybe after my herbalism course I will take a homeopathic one...

To pass the time I made this skirt for Mekayla the other day... She is checking the Twirl factor...

Mekayla's lovely note to me...

on a side note the updates on the kiddos: Dawson is 100% going on the potty with VERY few accidents....

Mekayla just started taking gymnastics and loves it... Can now do pretty good cartwheels at 5 1/2...
